Comment:
"Day Night Day Night" would have been a superb half-hour film. The action takes place with very little dialogue, and what there is is muted and flat in tone. The emotion is all supplied by the viewer, as we watch this inexplicable act -- the young woman has no name, she is not identified with any ideaology or group, and no one has any identifiable accent -- in its careful and mundane preparation. In the end, one feels the director ran out of ideas and didn't know how to wind up the situation, but getting there is very stressful. Still, it could have been shortened severely and lost little of its considerable power.
