Discovery Discovery showcases contemporary international cinema for new filmmakers. Among many of the titles include Lee Jun-ik’s King and the Clown, a film based on the play “Yi” (“You”). Inspired by the diaries of a sixteenth century king, the film combines comedy with tragedy. Following the stories of two clowns, one being androgynous, the film uncovers their poverty-stricken lives in spite of their free spirits. Because the clowns evoke laughter in the king, they are admitted into his court where they learn of dangers and the king’s dark side.
